Alan Day – International Women’s Day
Watford’s women’s football star Adekite Fatuga-Dada celebrated International Women’s Day by appealing to the public to help raise funds for the Watford’s Women’s Centre.
Adekite, 25, who is the Hornets longest serving player met with staff at the centre in Market Street on Tuesday 8th March.
The centre which was founded 32 years ago to provide life changing services for women is just £5000 short of starting essential work to refurbish the offices.
Over the past 18 months they have raised £71,000 through a variety of fundraising activities and just need a final push to get over the line.
Adekite Fatuga-Dada of Watford FC women said “If anyone has any spare money, I would ask them to dig deep in their pockets and help Watford’s women centre.
They are extremely important and do a great job in helping women in Watford and surrounding areas.”
Every year the centre supports around 1300 women, many of whom have suffered domestic abuse.
They are backed by My Ally, a support telephone line, email and face to face service available to any woman impacted by domestic abuse or relationship struggles.
Fiona Miller (pictured) Chief Executive Officer said “I’ve been stunned and shocked by the generosity of people in the town who have contributed both large and small amounts to our fundraiser.
In particular I would like to thank Alan Day Group, TK Maxx, Corona Energy and local councillors for their wonderful support and backing without whom this wouldn’t be possible.
It’s been a long journey over the past 18 months, but we are nearly at the finishing line.
We hope to get all the money by the end of April so that work can start making our offices more welcoming, comfortable and safe so that we can cope with the increasing demands for counselling and domestic abuse services.”
Last year, Watford’s former International goalkeeper Ben Foster and Watford ladies Helen Ward joined forces with car dealers Alan Day Group to help raise £5000 for the centre.
Sponsor Paul Tanner, managing director of Alan Day Group said “We are delighted to lend our support to such a worthy cause.
The centre does amazing work in the local community, and we wish them continued success in the future.”
Watford’s Women’s Centre provides life changing services for women so that they can lead independent, productive, and healthier lives free from abuse.
