Great British Radio Launch
BRITAIN gets a new radio station today that will concentrate on entertaining its listeners with a mixture of humour, upbeat interviews and popular music.
Great British Radio is the brainchild of comedian and broadcaster Mike Osman and it has the financial backing of millionaire plumber Charlie Mullins.
The new station’s launch schedule includes interviews with celebrity guests such as Chris Tarrant, Brian Conley, Lesley Joseph, Joe Pasquale and Harry Redknapp.
The station says a unique selling point of its proposition is that it will refuse to carry scheduled news bulletins. Instead it will concentrate on fun and lifestyle items.
Mike Osman said: “We’re all about great laughs, great guests and great music. There’s too much doom and gloom on the airwaves, so instead we will be aiming to make our listeners laugh at least once every ten minutes.”
“I know from back in the days when I toured with my own show in London that audiences there love their humour. I can’t wait to reconnect with them through Great British Radio.”
Osman previously hosted the prime time breakfast show on Capital Gold and he also presented on Smooth FM. More recently he has attracted millions of views on TikTok for his hilarious impressions of Donald Trump.
Charlie Mullins, the London-based plumbing entrepreneur who sold Pimlico Plumbers recently for £125m, will be chairman of the new station.
Charlie said: “I used to love listening to the radio in the days when DJs would have you creasing up with laughter. I liked the idea of Great British Radio so much that I’ve bought a chunk of the company!”
The station’s resident team includes celebrity presenters such actor Sam Kane, TV personality Linda Lusardi, actress Vicki Michelle, singer RaRa, and comedian Richard Digance and radio host Kevin King.
* Great British Radio is available on DAB+ in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, North London, Surrey, and South London – plus nationwide via radio player at greatbritishradio.org.
