Ruby Ace Vunipola gives Sarries New Year Cheer
ENGLAND STAR Billy Vunipola was on hand to spread some New Year cheer when he turned up at Allianz Park in Hendon to lend a helping hand running a training session for youngsters with learning difficulties.
The six foot two number eight is the latest in a long line of Saracens players to get involved with the scheme which encourages young people with high functioning disabilities such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome and ADHD to get up and get active.
The youngsters, aged between 12 and 20 years-old, were delighted as club icon Vunipola was on hand to make an extra special appearance for a special VIP training session. Afterwards he helped hand out awards for the boys.
The sessions focus on improving the health and mental well being of the participants and the team – now 20 members strong – meet for training every Monday to play touch rugby and practice their tackling technique.
The programme is sponsored by Hampstead car retailer Alan Day Volkswagen and Paul Tanner, managing director, said:”I would like to acknowledge all the hard work and effort that has made this possible over the past year and say a big thank you to all the Sarries RFC staff and of course to all the volunteers.
“We are very proud to be involved in this extraordinary initiative and it’s terrific to see Billy come down to put a smile on all the kids faces.”
